Background[]
On April 20, 2019, Doja Cat took to Instagram Live to preview the song. The version she played was the first demo, which was only recorded 3 days prior to the live.
On May 7, 2019, Doja Cat recorded the second demo of the song, also known as the solo version. This version included a second verse from Doja that was later removed for a verse from Smino. The previous names of the song were "I Won't Bite" and "I Might Bite" as written on the original file names of other versions.
In December 2019, Doja Cat did a game of ELLE's "Song Assosciation", where artists are given a word and have to sing a song containing that word. Doja sang a bit of "Won't Bite" when given the word "won't" and stated that she's most excited to perform that song from Hot Pink, especially with Smino. She also states it was her favourite song she's recorded. [1]

- Prior to the Hot Pink Tour, which was later cancelled due to the pandemic, Doja stated that "Won’t Bite" was the song she was the most excited to perform, especially because of Smino’s verse.
