"Waffle House" is a song by Tru Heru featuring Doja Cat. It was released on September 1, 2015, as the fourth track from his album, The Art of Dying. The song samples "Pourin The Syrup" by Kevin Gates. [1]
This is the second song on the album featuring Doja, the first song being the lead single "Lord Cooler".
Background[]
According to Genius user @LilSkyLord, "Lord Cooler", before the addition of Doja's verse, was playing in a car. Doja instantly fell in love with the track and asked who it was, not knowing it was Tru Heru who was sitting in the backseat. A week later in one studio session, Doja did a verse for "Lord Cooler" for Tru Heru, and he did his features on Doja's song "8th" for her. While there, they did one more record together; "Waffle House".[2]
Lyrics[]
[intro: Doja Cat]
We've got to wake up
And get in to it
The sun is coming up
Pick up the rhythm, like its no tomorrow
We've got to wake up
And get in to it
The sun is coming up
Pick up the rhythm, like its no tomorrow
Its no tomorrow
Its no tomorrow
Its no tomorrow
[kevin gates-pourin the syrup]
[verse: Tru Heru]
Wake up
Wake up
Wake up
Wake up, lets get in to it
Pouring syrup like Waffle House, got the pints to do it
Just trying to see what this life about, seems its nothing to it
Seems its something fluid
Seems its something I can swim through
Purple lightsaber, master windu
Bout these star wars, my life's a stencil
Keep my life with pistols
You know it, I told you life is simple
Smoking four quarters in my temple
All about a dollar and more bout evolution
And more than sipping couple 40s with my troopers
I'm talking bout glowing up, I feel like Martin Luther
Cause all I have is dreams, sipping on that cool cup
