"Shampoo" is an unreleased song by Doja Cat. It was intended for her fourth studio album, Scarlet, and will possibly make an appearance on her upcoming fifth studio album.
Background[]
On October 5, 2023, Doja Cat's engineer Rian Lewis had done an interview for Revolt and was asked about studio sessions with Doja.[1] In the interview, Rian talked about a song that he really liked (Shampoo) that was scrapped off Scarlet, also stating she wrote around 35 songs for the album. The song never made it to Scarlet 2: CLAUDE (the deluxe version of Scarlet) as Rian hoped it would.
"She probably wrote 35 songs for this album. [...] There are so many incredible songs that didn’t make the album. There’s a song called “Shampoo” that didn’t make the album. It might potentially make the deluxe album. It’s just magnificent. I hope it makes it out to her fans someday. It’s a really great song."
On October 26, 2024, Doja Cat premiered an exclusive Airbnb event performance. She previewed some unreleased songs off Scarlet, possibly making it onto her upcoming album, and some entirely new tracks that'll likely make an appearance on the next album. "Shampoo" was one of these songs played. One of the Airbnb attendees, Arilea, gave a review of her experience at the event and stated that Shampoo was her favourite of the songs Doja Cat performed. Arilea also shared some lyrics for shampoo: “I need to get you out my hair, I need to get you out my hair like shampoo”.
