"n.h.i.e." (stylized in all lowercase and acronymized for "never have I ever") is a song by 21 Savage and Doja Cat. It was released through RCA Records and Epic Records on January 12, 2024, as the second single from his third studio album, American Dream. The song was later released as the albums lead single on January 17, 2024.
Background[]
On April 18, 2023, Doja Cat shared an early tracklist of her fourth studio album Scarlet, "n.h.i.e." among the songs. Doja also took to Instagram Live to play a second long snippet of each song. However, when the album released in September 2023, it wasn't seen, making it out to be scrapped.
On January 12, 2024, the song was announced on Instagram through a joint collaborated post by Doja and 21 Savage with a baby picture of Doja, captioned "🕷️ x 🗡️". The song was later released that night along with the rest of 21 Savage's album. It's likely Doja has an unreleased solo version as Scarlet was always intended to be a solo project.
Critical reception[]
Teejay Small for HotNewHipHop wrote that "Doja Cat stuns with her trademark blend of melody and humor",[1] while Mosi Reeves for Rolling Stone praised Doja Cat's "whispery adlibs".[2]
