"Imagine" is the twelfth track from Doja Cat's third album Planet Her. Doja Cat reflects on her rise to pop stardom, her career and personal success and how this is real life for her and not imaginary, as the title suggests.
Background[]
Doja Cat confirmed on Instagram Live on June 26, 2021, that the song was meant to have a feature and heavily implied that Nicki Minaj was the feature meant to be on the song, which was later confirmed.
In September 2021, Nicki Minaj revealed that Doja Cat's team sent her the song "Get Into It (Yuh)" and then "Imagine" to see if she wanted to contribute a verse to the track on a Twitter Spaces conversation. Minaj eventually declined the offer because she felt that "she couldn't bring anything" to the tracks and that too many middlemen were involved, mentioning that if her and Doja worked directly in the studio on a track, the result would be different.
Doja publicly agreed with Minaj, saying that “[...] but I think that sending Nicki the perfect song can happen and I think it will happen. I’m very excited for that, but I absolutely agree with her about having the right song for her". Doja added: "I think a lot of collaborations feel forced with some people. [...] But I think Nicki is very formidable. Just a fantastic rapper and fantastic performer".

- In an interview on September 11, 2021, with MTV News, Doja Cat shared some background behind the photography flash sound effects in the song.
- "Imagine was the most hated song but I loved it. And I was so excited that there was a moment in the song where my photographer came into the booth and took a picture of me while the mic was on, and you could hear the click of the camera and it was on beat. And we were like, "Oh my God, that needs to be in the song" and I think we were all excited about that, and the song is dope, but I think it was the weakest one and I thought that was a really funny moment to have with all my fans."
