"Crack" is a song by Doja Cat. The track was recorded in the sessions for her fourth album, Scarlet, however, it was scrapped. It was later re-recorded to be part of her fifth album, Vie, but was cut from the final tracklist. It was later uploaded exclusively to her official website on May 5, 2025, not having any official release whatsoever.
Background[]
On February 25, 2022, Doja Cat took to Instagram Live and previewed the song as a demo version with no verses.
On March 13, 2024, Doja commented under a fan's TikTok video regarding the song, where she stated "i'll put it out".
On November 12, 2024, Doja Cat shared an image on X (formerly Twitter) an unorganized demo track listing of her upcoming fifth studio album, Vie, however this tweet was shortly deleted. "Crack" can be seen in the image with a star next to it, where she stated that the starred songs indicate her favourites.
On March 29, 2025, Doja took to Instagram Live to preview intro snippets of each track on the album, including "Crack".
On April 13, 2025, Doja posted another demo track list of Vie to X, with some very noticeable differences. The photo was with the caption, "dont ask me where crack is rn", as it wasn't seen in this new track list.
On May 1, 2025, Doja tweeted "crack the code", which would later correlate with the newsletter email sent out days later.
On May 3, 2025, Doja Cat's official website was updated, teasing the song. The main page included the Instagram livestream clip of when she previewed "Crack" in 2022. If users on a computer right-click the screen and select "inspect" to view the page's coding, a hidden message could be seen, written "5/5"[1], confirming the release date to be on May 5. Alongside this, Doja confirmed via more tweets on X, stating "it’s not the lead i’m just giving it to the people who asked for it" and "no relation to the album whatsoever". Her official email newsletter also sent out an email which wrote "Crack the code".
on May 5, 2025, the official website was updated. There would be a section of the main page that wrote “CRACK FOR 24 HOURS ONLY”. Once clicked on, users would be redirected to a page where it shows a gift box and a tag where the user is required to apply their email and phone number in order to download the song, not having an official release on any streaming platform. This version of the song is finalised with a new verse from Doja and an accordion instrument that plays very briefly for some parts of the song, indicative of the sound in her fifth studio album, Vie.
On May 10, 2025, Doja performed the song at the Wango Tango Festival, marking its live debut despite its unreleased status. On August 9, 2025, Doja performed the song at the Outside Lands Festival, again despite its unreleased status.
