"Celebrity Skin" is a song by Doja Cat. It was released as promotional single through RCA Records and Kemosabe Records on February 11, 2022.

Background[]

"Celebrity Skin" is a cover of Hole's classic song "Celebrity Skin", released on August 31, 1998. Doja teams up with prolific pop-punk producers Travis Barker and Dark Waves.[1] On February 9, 2022, Doja Cat revealed the song in an Instagram Live, which was featured in Taco Bell's Super Bowl commercial.[2][3]

The high-profile cover of a well-known rock song can be seen as a pushback against the decades-long erasure of women and people of color from mainstream rock, along with the recent success of artists like Willow Smith.[4]

A audio video was released on the same day on Doja's YouTube channel and a behind-the-scenes video showing Doja Cat singing the song was released as a commercial video on Taco Bell's official YouTube channel.

Lyrics[]

[Verse 1]
Oh, make me over
I'm all I wanna be
A walking fire
You can't get rid of me

[Chorus]
Hey, so glad you could make it
Yeah, now you really made it
Hey, so glad you could make it now

[Verse 2]
Oh, look at my face
My name is "Might-Have-Been"
My name is "Never Was"
My name's forgotten

[Chorus]
Hey, so glad you could make it
Yeah, now you really made it
Hey, there's only us left now

[Post-Chorus]
When I wake up in my makeup
It's too early for that dress
Wilted and faded somewhere in Hollywood
I'm glad I came hеre with your pound of flesh
No second billing 'causе you're a star now
Cinderella, they aren't trash like you
Beautiful garbage, beautiful dresses
Can you stand up or will you just fall down?

[Verse 3]
You better watch out
What you wish for
Better be worth it
So much to die for

[Chorus]
Hey, so glad you could make it
Yeah, now you really made it
Hey, there's only us left now

[Post-Chorus]
When I wake up in my makeup
Have you ever felt so used up as this?
It's all so sugarless, useless waitress
Model, actress, oh, just go nameless
Honeysuckle, she's full of poison
She obliterated everything she kissed
And now she's fading somewhere in Hollywood
I'm glad I came here with your pound of flesh

[Outro]
You want a part of me?
Well, I'm not selling cheap
No, I'm not selling cheap
