The song uses the instrumental track "Last Summer Was a Dream" produced by Iman Omari. It was also uploaded previously as a demo to her SoundCloud account on February 7, 2014; however, it was taken down a few days later.

On December 29, 2013, Doja Cat shared two videos and two photos in the studio via her Instagram account, previewing the song. The posts have since been deleted.
On February 7, 2014, months prior to its official release on Purrr!, an earlier version of the song was uploaded to her SoundCloud account before getting removed after a few days. It was uploaded under the title "❤✧ ♦ ❝BEAUTIFUL❞ ♦ IMAN OMARI ♦ ✧❤". This version has extra synths, no second verse, unmixed vocals, slightly different lyrics in chorus and refrain, an extended refrain, and some other minor differences.
